The importance of a professional Profile Picture

How many times have you seen someones profile picture on Social Media. It would be fair to say that most people take they're own portrait image. They take a selfie, which is all good for social media purposes. But when it come to a professional portrait photo, a selfie just won't cut it. As it doesn't look give of the vibe of how professional you look.

I understand that you in front of the Eiffel Tower is a great image, but the towers stature takes away from your face. And how does "you being in Paris" help those who don't know you want to reach out to you?

That is why a Professional Headshot image, makes you stand out as it provides an initial point of contact that helps new customers reach out to you. And as a photographer, how do I take my own?

How do I press the shutter button on the camera, see how the image looks, make changes if necessary, and re-take the image. By doing something called TETHERING. This is where I link my camera to my laptop, so I can access all the controls and see what I need to change to make it the best it can be.

The image above is a screenshot of what I see after I have taken a picture of myself. Let me talk you through the screen.

In the top right corner there is a grey circle - which simulates the camera shutter button.

Along the bottom row, are the images that have already been taken during that session.

Above that, there are 2 images. The image on the left is the "live view" image. That is what is seen through the camera lens, so I know where to position myself in the frame. The right hand image, is the one that has been taken by the camera, when the shutter button has been pressed.

Working alone, does bring it's challenges, especially as I can't see if my clothing needs adjusted until AFTER I take the shot.

But, working with someone it is much easier to see and make changes BEFORE pressing the button. As well as being able to help the sitter feel at ease prior to the session begins.

With just 2 lights, and a blank wall, get in touch to see how easy it will be when I visit your premises. Or, I could bring one of my backdrops to give a nice clear, crisp look for you.

You'll be surprised at how easy it is to have a productive photo session, and the results can be used in various ways to promote your business.
